Miguel de Cervantes, the most famous Spanish language writer, was born in 1547 in a town called Alcalá de Henares, not far away from Madrid. In his memory, Madrid offers you an historic touristic route on the Cervantes Train that leaves every Saturday from Madrid’s Atocha train station to his hometown. In the train, you can watch some fragments from Cervantes´ most famous works and remember his chef d'oeuvre, "El Quijote". A visit to the Birthplace Museum and the University of Cervantes, both located in Alcalá de Henares, is a wonderful way of learning more about the work of this famous Spanish author. The Cervantes Train route will be running this spring, summer and autumn (From 7 April to 28 July and from 1 September to 8 December). During the 30-minute journey, you will wach the entertainers dressed in traditional attire from the Spanish Golden Century perform excerpts from the writer’s work that we all may have heard about. Once the train arrives in Alcalá de Henares, you will be taken on a tour of the old centre of the town, to the landmarks of the World Heritage Site. The Cervantes Train departures from Madrid Atocha every Saturday at 10 am and then leaves Alcalá de Henares a las 6:50 pm.
